Spider Costume
This one is N's design, I was just a humble worker. He had a very good idea EXACTLY what he wanted, and now the happiest Fasching kid. So, how do you get that smile?
You will need:
1. A black hat;
2. Eyes - I ran out of googly eyes, so I cut some from thin foam;
3. Black long sleeve shirt, optionally black matching pants;
4. 3 pairs of fluffy socks. I used regular length, size 43-46 for a toddler costume, for a grown-up you would probably need extra long ones;
5. Some black fabric/ felt to cover the back. I used old tights;
6. Wide elastic band for straps;
7. Cardboard for a base;
8. 3 wire hangers;
9. Polyfill or foam to fill the socks (some people just use newspapers);
10. Hot glue gun, needle and thread, adhesive tape, scissors.

I'm starting with the hat. Because, eyes and hot glue. The fastest job ever.
And now the harder part. Judging by the light on this photo, it took me a day to figure this one out. Measure the back of your spider and cut out (2) cardboard ovals. Or one shape to fold into oval (shown at the beginning of the project). Straighten your three wire hangers. Glue/tape to the cardboard, then glue/tape the second cardboard on top, so it holds better.
Then, wrap your spider legs with foam/polyfill/newspapers/whatever you have around. Lift up to see if your project keeps its shape. Mine didn't, so I had to add chopsticks at the base of the upper "legs" to keep them straight up.
After you have the basic spider, put on your fluffy socks. Fix the shape, making space for the fourth set of "legs" - namely, your or your kid's arms.
Measure and stitch on the straps. They go around the back and front for better support. My straps are elastic, so I attached them on the upper side only.
Now, wrap your "body" in black material. I used old tights and hot glue. If your straps are not elastic, you can cover them too on the side that's showing (I would call that the back side).
Now just sew your socks together with the black fabric, so everything is nice and covered. And your spider is ready to run!
Happy crafting!
