House Fly Piñata
Looking for a piñata idea for an insect-themed party? Start with what insect would you like to smash the most. Easy, huh? Here it is, how to make a house fly. You will need:
1. Balloon(s) - I used 2;
2. Paper and glue for papier mache;
3. Cardboard for legs and proboscis (yes, I looked that up, and yes, I totally forgot to glue that part to my house fly);
4. Old plastic (preferably beaten up, so not too transparent) cut flush pocket to cut wings out of;
5. Paints and permanent marker;
6. A hook for hanging;
7. Hot glue gun and scissors.

Start with papier mache-ing your balloon(s). Bear in mind, the more paper and stronger glue you use, the harder would be for someone to break it. Adjust the thickness according to your audience. For a bunch of first graders I used 3 layers and dissolved the glue in a lot of water.
Once your balloon(s) are dry, follow the steps as in the photos below: |
Hope you enjoy making it as much as breaking it!
