Paper basket

How to weave a basket from paper. Disclaimer: this project can be frustrating, especially after watching YouTube and convincing yourself it looks easy.

Here we go:

 Cut some paper into thin long stripes like these:

Use a stick (the thinner, the better) to roll the pieces into long tubes:

Glue lightly the remaining edge to the tube:

You should end up with something like this:

Now, you are ready to weave. Here how we start a round basket. You put four by four tubes in a cross:

And tie with another one:

Insert new tubes in the ends of the tube you used to tie the cross to extend them. Start weaving the bottom of the basket by putting one tube under and one under each two of the cross tubes.

Weave as much of a bottom as you like. Keep extending the tubes by inserting new ones. Once ready with the bottom, lift the tubes at an angle and start weaving this time by putting one tube under and one over each of the cross tubes. The angle you use will determine the shape of your basket.

Weave until you have the basket as deep as you want it.

To finish, weave in the tubes from the cross:
